In very good news for the continuation of the Keanussance, Lionsgate’s “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum” has sold over three million units in packaged media, electronic sales and VOD since its arrival in the post-theatrical window in late August with the Digital HD release.
That makes it Lionsgate’s highest-grossing home entertainment title in five years and biggest hit since 2014’s in that field since “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1”. In fact in its first three days of electronic sell-through it became the studio’s biggest ever hit, surpassing “John Wick: Chapter 2” in its first three days.
The film became available on disc on September 10th after being one of the Summer’s standout films both in terms of critical success and a strong commercial run with $171 million domestic and $321 million worldwide, nearly double that of the previous installment. It was also the sixth-highest domestic grosser for the summer season.
Lionsgate adds that the film is over-indexing on home entertainment platforms at a level comparable to action titles that have grossed $100 million more or higher at the domestic box-office – indicating its home entertainment component is a big part of the film’s success.
“John Wick: Chapter 4” has already locked in a release date of May 21st 2021.
